UPDATE: YOU DID IT! The $90 target was reached in a little under 2 days, and we will shortly have a new site at http://microlite20.net for the littlest d20 game around! But don’tstop there – donations are still open if you want to contribute and support Microlite20! Thank you, all!
The server that has been the home for Microlite20, my zenified version of D&D, is spending more time down than up right now, to the point where it’s overdue time to jump ship.
In order to do that, I’d like to call on the help of all the folks out there who love and play Microlite20. I’ve selected MochaHost as the new home for Microlite20, and that’s going to cost around $90 for 2 years, including domain. For that we get 300Gb/month bandwidth, 10Gb storage and more pre-installable toys than you can shake a stick at.
I think it’s time for Microlite20 to pay it’s way in the world, so if you’d like to see the Macropedia up, all the time, want your name in lights and have the eternal thanks and gratitude of the Microlite20 community, Make a Donation. How much you donate is entirely up to you – a dollar or two will go a long way - but bear in mind that the quicker we reach $90, the faster I’ll be able to get M20 up and running on a shiny new home. And more cash means even more shiny!!!!
In return, along with all the thanks and adoration, I’ll send all contributors a username & password so they can host their own blogs, story hours and house rules up there. There’ll be a forum too with free registration for all, and maybe even a PDF store.
But that’s all in the future. Right now, Microlite20 needs to make just $90. Then, I’ll make a site we can all share, use and be a part of.

Questions, questions
1. Why are you doing this? Why not pay for the hosting yourself?
I’m doing it this way for several reasons. Firstly, to simply let people give something back to Microlite20, if they want. It’ll cool to be able to look at the shiny new Microlite20 site and say that they helped make it happen.
While I could pay for the hosting myself, I’d love to see the Microlite20 community pull together on this one and truly make the new site theirs; if I paid for it, the site would be mine and everyone else merely visitors. I’d rather it be something to share from the ground up. Accepting donations is one psychological step in this direction.
2. Why through fundraising? Why not sell the PDFs or release a print edition of Microlite20?
It’s likely that there will be a print-on-demand version of Microlite20 complete with collated House Rules, Options, Campaign Settings and Adventures. The proceeds of this will go towards the long term care of the Microlite20 site. However, before that happens we need a stable site with a decent uptime to be able to support it. Donaters will get a (substantial) discount when the POD is released.
3. How much should I donate?
That’s entirely up to you. $90 pays for 2 years hosting with MochaHost, so that’s our immediate goal. It doesn’t matter whether that’s achieved by 90 folks donating a dollar, or 3 guys sending $30 each; it will all be very gratefully received and put to good use.
If you’re mathematically inclined, why not send a dollar per player per session? That way, two sessions playing (and enjoying, I hope!) Microlite20 with 3 friends would be an $8 donation. That’s by no means a guideline (or even a suggestion), but some people like a ballpark figure to work with.
I’ll say it again though; even a dollar helps!
4. Do I have to donate to be able to play with Microlite20?
No, and you never will. Microlite20 is born from my love of role-playing, and a desire to share it with others. That’s one of the reasons I’ve shied away from creating a purchasable version of Microlite20 in the past. Enough people have requested a print-on-demand/high quality PDF version, so that will happen Real Soon, but the rules will always be available, online, for free.
5. I can’t afford to donate, but would love to do something to help. What can I do?
The best thing you could do is play the game and have fun. That is, after all, what it’s all about! Beyond that, promote Microlite20 on your blogs, in the forums at RPGNet, ENWorld and elsewhere. Promote the make a donation link whenever you rave about how great Microlite20 is, and we’ll reach the $90 target even more quickly, thanks to you!
6. What do I get if I donate?
My personal thanks and gratitude, along with that warm fuzzy feeling for helping support something you love. But that’s not all.
Donaters will get first-tier access to the site, meaning they can host blogs, write story hours, and post House Rules and Variants directly onto the site. While the exact details aren’t yet set in stone, Donaters will get a level of content control over and above that of regular registered (and unregistered) users. I’ll post more details about this when we’re live.
